Paulo Águas has a PhD in Business Studies with major in Marketing, a master in Business Studies, a first degree in Economics. Currently is Rector at the University of the Algarve. In 1989 he held his first academic management position at the School of Management, Hospitality and Tourism – University of the Algarve. Between 2002 and 2004 he was Head of the Research Unit at the Algarve branch of the National Statistical Office and he was a board member of a hotel between 1991 and 1993. He has more than 40 publications and has both coordinated and/or participated in more than 10 research projects, mainly centered in Tourism Marketing.
